On August 23, 2022, the state of New York will hold primaries in congressional races and State Senate races, as well as special elections in two vacant congressional districts. This page is New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation’s voter information page pertaining to these elections.

To find out whether an election is being held in your area on August 23, please see below or visit the website of your county board of elections.

For information on polling places and absentee ballots, please visit the website of your county board of elections.

If you are an independent voter (not registered with any political party), you may vote in the August 23 special elections but not in the August 23 primary elections.

Special Elections: U.S. House of Representatives

At present, two of New York’s congressional seats are vacant. In New York’s 19th congressional district (NY-19), a vacancy was created when Rep. Antonio Delgado resigned from office after having been appointed lieutenant governor of New York by Gov. Kathy Hochul. In New York’s 23rd congressional district (NY-23), a vacancy was created when Rep. Tom Reed resigned from office to take a private sector position.

The winners of the special elections in NY-19 and NY-23 will hold office until January 2023, when the candidates elected in the November 2022 elections will take office.
