2022 Primary Election Voter Guides Are Available

Are you enrolled in a political party?

If so, please mark your calendar to vote on primary day on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

On June 28, primary elections will be held in New York. Specifically, primaries will be held for statewide offices, for New York State Assembly, and for various judgeships and local offices. For details on the primaries in your county, please visit the website of your county board of elections. To find your polling site, please click here. Early voting is available from June 18 to June 26.

New York is a closed primary state, which means that an individual must be enrolled in a particular party (Republican, Democrat, Conservative or Working Families Party) to vote in that party’s primary elections. In open primary states, registered voters can vote in any party’s primary process.

To help equip New Yorkers to cast informed votes in the upcoming primaries, New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation (NYFRF) has created nonpartisan voter guides for the Democratic and Republican primaries for governor of New York, and for the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor of New York.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY3), and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams will face off in the Democratic primary for governor, while Ana Maria Archila, Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado, and former New York City Councilmember Diana Reyna are vying to become the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor.

On the Republican side, former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, former special assistant to the president Andrew Giuliani, businessman Harry Wilson, and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY1) are seeking to become the Republican candidate for governor. (Former New York Police Department Deputy Inspector Alison Esposito is the only Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.)

As always, our voter guides provide information on the candidates’ positions on a broad range of issues. This year’s guides include information on abortion, bail reform, socialized medicine, and other key questions.

If your party is holding primaries on June 28, please vote—and please be an informed voter.

Additional Information About Our Process:

In anticipation of the June 28 primary election, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor of New York were offered the opportunity to complete NYFRF’s Candidate Survey. The purpose of this survey was to gather information so that our organization might educate and inform voters of candidate positions on a variety of issues.

Surveys were sent via publicly listed emails to every candidate in a race. These surveys were to be returned by June 16, 2022. A reminder email was also sent to each of the campaigns on June 16.

To date, only Rep. Lee Zeldin responded to the request. All position statements for Mr. Zeldin were drawn from his completed questionnaire. Other candidates’ stances were determined based upon NYFRF’s research
