“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:28-32)
The passage of the Reproductive Health Act (RHA) in New York has provoked a wide range of reactions, both here and across the country.
Many people are justifiably horrified. According to LifeSiteNews.com, 121,000 people have signed a petition condemning Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision to light the World Trade Center pink to celebrate the passage of the RHA. James Dobson called the RHA “pure barbarism on a scale rarely seen since the Middle Ages.” Franklin Graham urged Cardinal Timothy Dolan to excommunicate Gov. Cuomo from the Roman Catholic Church, asserting that whether such an action would “[move] the governor’s calloused heart or not, it [would] have a great impact on not only the church in New York, but on the church worldwide.”
Sadly, others have reacted to the RHA by becoming emboldened to push for similar measures in their own states. According to The Christian Post, “state legislators in Rhode Island have introduced a pair of bills to legalize abortion up to the moment of birth, echoing [the RHA]”; Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo supports the measure. In Virginia, a pro-abortion state legislator made national news by acknowledging that her abortion expansion bill would allow an abortion even when a pregnant mother is in labor.
It is difficult to understand how anyone could demonstrate the callous unconcern for the unborn that is currently on display on the political left. While some pro-abortion politicians may support abortion expansion due to fear of Planned Parenthood, others truly believe in the rightness of their cause. For these individuals, believers should pray that God will enlighten their darkened hearts.
